I feel like influencer culture is "keeping up with the joneses" on steroids. The idea of wanting to appear as successful as those around us isn't new, but social media certainly amplifies it. I think it's a difficult part of human nature that we need to reckon with. Namely that, we often seek to be like others in order to feel accepted and desirable. And we'll go to great lengths to achieve that feeling.

But like that you pointed out that we can't isolate ourselves from our social situation. A certain level of individualism is good, but hyper individualism is stressful, isolating and deceptive.
