I have some mixed feelings about the appropriation of dialects. For example, Drake is from Toronto (so am I) and as a region with a lot of immigrants, I've noticed that Jamaican patois, AAVE, even some Arabic phrases can bleed into Toronto culture and become a part of people's casual speech (regardless of their racial or ethnic category). Like it's pretty normal for people in the area to say, "wallahi" (meaning swear to God in Arabic), it's pretty normal for people to casually say, "wha gwan?" (meaning what's up in patois) etc. I think the way we speak is influenced by the people around us and as diverse nations it may be difficult, and even undesirable, to ask people to totally reject natural cultural shifts in language.
